What are Lake Balls?
The term “Lake Balls” is used to describe golf balls in second hand condition. These balls can come in a range of different grades and are usually sold in bulk quantity, as can be found on this site! These balls are often lost during play and are collected from the water and rough areas of the golf course. Traditionally lake balls were only found at the bottom of lakes and rivers in the golf course. Because of this the balls were deemed to change the playing characteristics due to the water penetrating the surface and core of the ball. These days though the term is loosely used to simply describe golf balls in used condition.
Lake balls can be bought in many different grades from A – C depending on the condition of the golf balls. Grade A describes balls in nearly new condition, with Grade C indicating that the balls are in well used condition including marks and scuffs. Depending on how you wish to use the balls, quite often a lower grade can be very cheap to buy in bulk and are great to simply use for practice and for non-important games. Grade A balls are in great condition and may have been lost by the previous owner after just a few swings. Refurbished lake balls are normally great quality golf balls, without damage or marking and have been re-sprayed in a way to keep the balls play as close to its original condition as possible.
Buying cheap lake balls is indeed a great way to save money. As you can see you can purchase a wide range of different golf balls from leading manufacturers at a fraction of the price new balls would cost. You can find the balls in many different quantities, usually with the price per ball dropping the more you purchase.
